Something I have learned over the last year is that lighting is everything. A thoughtfully lit space is so important and the way you place your fixtures can make a huge impact in a room.

When we moved into our new home we noticed something pretty quickly.... by about 8pm on the first night, to be exact... We had no lighting. I mean, there were fixtures dotted around the house but almost no recessed lighting and the fixtures that we did have were pretty bad (looks-wise and light-wise).

Over the past couple months I have changed out a number of the fixtures for more stylish, higher voltage options as well as adding recessed lighting to our main living room. The final touches will like come in the form of my new obsession: plug-in sconces.

Hiring an electrician to add new lights and fixtures to your home can get expensive really quickly. A great alternative is the oh-so-of-the-moment plug-in sconce. These fixtures are wall mounted but plug into outlets and have a switch on the fixture, so no electrician needed! Plug-in sconces feel more permanent than lamps and don't take up physical space.

I added a couple to my son's bedroom as reading lights on the upper and lower bunk and I seriously love them (he does too).

I have been also researching options for a client and wanted to share some of my favorites. Check out my finds below:

Any lighting types you hate? Florescent, anyone?! Personally, I have never liked uplighting...
